The annual Arts Performance Event is a tradition and event that dates back almost three decades! Over the course of those 27 years, the event has evolved into an important fundraiser for our organization. Year after year, we aim to improve the experience for our sponsors and their guests by bringing in legendary artists to perform, showcasing stories about our organization via videos and messaging onsite and encouraging people to help by signing up to volunteer or to make a donation on site.

Radio personality and Dallas radio legend, Anna de Haro of iHeartMedia, hosted this year’s event as the emcee. Her enthusiasm and knowledge of Vogel helped inspire and inform guests about the mission of Vogel. Board Chair Rick Lacher took to the stage and thanked all of the board members, teachers and staff for their continued work with our children and families. He also introduced this year’s event chair Mark Miner, American Airlines Managing Director of Technical Operations Systems Integration. Mark graciously thanked our pinnacle sponsor McKool Smith, along with the other generous sponsors of the evening.

President & CEO Karen Hughes shared a heart-warming story about a child named Jenny. The story of Jenny showcased how our children live in a state of stress and trauma, but with the dedicated support of our staff, each child can flourish. Jenny had planted flowers in our Bloom & Grow garden and was concerned that they wouldn’t bloom again after the cold winter. To her delight and amazement, the flowers returned in the spring, providing Jenny with confidence and encouragement. Her teacher reminded her that the flowers are strong, just as she is.

Also new this year, we debuted a new video created by one of our volunteers, Alan Rose. This video showcased the stories of three of our parents and talked about their journey before and during their time within our program. Click below to see the video.

After the program, the performances began. This year’s performers were the broadway headliner of Movin’ Out, Michael Cavanaugh and three-time GRAMMY award winners, The Pointer Sisters. For the first time in recent years, the event was held on a Saturday, which made for a fun-filled weekend evening. Sponsors were treated to an amazing collection of hits spanning the 60s to current day. Michael encouraged the crowd to sing along and brought the audience to its feet and out on the dance floor. Even the few guests that remained seated at their tables were singing and dancing in their chairs. As soon as Michael’s performance ended, he introduced The Pointer Sisters, who entered upon their own stage and belted out many of their famous hits. Time and time again the trio hit the the high-notes and encouraged dancing and singing. For an encore, The Pointer Sisters performed a few songs before ending with their timeless classic Jump (For My Love).

The Arts Performance Event is a tradition in Dallas and is still our most important fundraising vehicle. Sponsors and guests join us each spring for the event and generously support our programs by purchasing event sponsorships and donating onsite. Vogel is very appreciative of the commitment to our organization by McKool Smith which, for the 11th year in a row, has committed to the presenting sponsorship role. Thank you to all of our donors for the continued support of our mission and the Arts Performance Event.
