Since 1987, the Vogel Alcove’s comprehensive childcare program has served over 11,500 homeless children in Dallas. Your support is critical to the continuation of the work of the Alcove, the only childcare center serving homeless children from 18 local emergency and domestic violence shelters.
The Vogel Alcove has always been a careful steward of your hard-earned dollars. The agency relies primarily on proceeds from the Annual Arts Performance Event, which covers over half of the annual organizational budget. The Alcove also receives contributions to the Annual Fund for Homeless Children, and grants from foundations, corporations, organizations and various governmental funding sources.
The Vogel Alcove is not a United Way agency.

Why Give

For nearly a year, Becca was separated from her mother. Soon after they reunited, her mother learned that Becca had witnessed a violent crime during their time apart.
When Becca first came to the Vogel Alcove she refused to eat and spent the day crying for her mother. Despite the loving encouragement of her caregivers, little Becca refused to join in classroom activities. Instead, she stood by the door wearing her backpack, hoping her mother would return for her.
Through play therapy at the Alcove, Becca learned to express her feelings of pain and anxiety with the recent changes and trauma she had experienced. Becca began to overcome her fear as she and the Alcove therapist played through scenarios of separating and reuniting with her mother.
Today Becca is making strides in her classroom at the Alcove. Rather than stand at the doorway waiting for her mother’s return, Becca enthusiastically participates in classroom activities and is often seen helping and playing with the other children in the classroom.
