Classroom Assistants
Volunteers are welcome any time Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm to read to children, interact with conversation and join in playtime, rock babies, help with art projects, and participate in outside play.
Weekend Projects
May include playground clean-up, spreading fresh woodchips on playground areas, preparing garden area for new plantings, helping sort donated items, putting outfits of children’s clothing together as seasons change, and cleaning childcare items such as strollers and high chairs.
Holiday Happenings
Volunteers may host parties for children on special occasions such as Christmas, Halloween, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Cinco de Mayo, etc. During winter holidays, volunteers can help prepare gift packages for children from toys and clothing that have been donated by various groups. They may also wrap gifts, put together outfits of clothing, prepare small gift bags for parents, etc.
Large Projects
From time to time the Vogel Alcove childcare center needs repairs and renovations. To help off-set these costs, volunteers and local businesses may help by painting, plumbing, roofing, installing appliances, and other renovation projects.
Donation Collections
Items which are frequently used throughout the year and which can be part of a group’s project in gathering donations include:
Infant care items – diapers, formula, baby wipes, bibs, wash cloths, lotions and ointments
New underwear and socks for toddlers and preschoolers – ages 2years to six years
New clothing – pajamas, knit pants/shirts, windbreakers
Art supplies – construction paper, markers, paintbrushes, crayons, glue sticks
Toiletry items – toothbrushes, toothpaste, combs, brushes, shampoo
