Community Collaborations

The Vogel Alcove works with the following community organizations to address the needs of the youngest of homeless children in our community:

  • Brookhaven Community College: provides staff training and career planning

  • Capers for Kids: provides creative drama and visual art classes

  • Captain Hope's Kids: donates diapers, wipes and lotions

  • Community Dental Care: provides free on-site dental care, education and prevention

  • Continuum of Care: works together to secure HUD grant funding for the homeless in Dallas

  • Dallas Arboretum: hosts once-a-year field trip, including lunch, for Alcove families and staff

  • Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center: provides workshops and training on sexual abuse prevention

  • Dallas Community Voicemail: the Alcove purchases phone numbers for parents, as needed

  • Dallas Furniture Bank: provides furniture for formerly homeless families reentering society

  • Dallas Psychoanalytic Center: provides clinical therapists and psychiatrists on difficult cases

  • Early Childhood Intervention (Dallas Public Schools): provides developmental services

  • Educational First Steps: provides professional assistance for our childcare staff

  • Head Start of Greater Dallas: partnership that funds three pre-school classrooms at the Alcove

  • Legal Aid of Northwest Texas: provides free monthly legal services for Alcove families

  • Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance: community-wide organization to eradicate homelessness in Dallas

  • Milestone Therapy Services: provides on-site speech, physical and occupational therapy

  • Museum of Nature & Science: brings different animals to the Alcove to teach science and nature

  • Operation Kindness: brings Marty the Therapy Dog to teach children about animal safety and care

  • Parkland Hospital:  provides free medical care through the HOMES medical outreach van

  • Prevent Blindness Texas: provides on-site quarterly vision screening

  • Rainbow Days: weekly age-appropriate program that addresses self-esteem to children in crisis

  • Senior Source: places eligible senior citizens to volunteer as “Foster Grandparents”

  • University of Texas at Dallas: performs in-depth developmental screens for children with delays
